Writing Memoir

Sunday, April 14, 2013 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm

Writing workshop at Arts on the Lake

Community Workshop

Workshop Leader: Tom Kersting

Regardless of your age, no one else has lived your life, had your own experiences, or seen them from your unique perspective. Whether you’re a student trying to find meaning in a particular moment or moments of your life so far, a senior citizen wishing to record some aspects of your past for your children or grandchildren, or anyone in between, why not take the first step in telling your story?

At this afternoon workshop you will
• begin writing a short piece of your own memoir
(or continue one you may have started already)
• learn the difference between memoir and autobiography
• consider sources of inspiration for memoir
• explore strategies for getting started
• compare ways of structuring a memoir
• discuss writing the truth in memoir
• examine brief memoir samples
• plan where to go from here
• identify further resources for writing memoir

Bring a notebook and pen. You should leave this workshop full of ideas for writing your own memoir and ready to move it forward to the next steps.

Registration is by clicking "Buy Tickets" above, emailing rsvp@artsonthelake.org or calling 845 228-2685.

Public admission is $5. Member / Student admission is $2.
