Organist Christine Gevert and Counter Tenor Nicholas Tamagna in a program of Baroque arias, cantatas and instrumental works by Handel, Purcell, Gabrieli, Monteverdi and others.  The performance on reproduction period instruments at the Sagamore Lake home of Paul and Barbara Krieger will be followed by dinner.

Because seating is limited this event is limited to the Friends of Classical Music and their guests.  Consider joining the Friends for 2012.  Membership includes this and other events.

About the Event

Christine Gevert (Organist) holds a master’s degree in organ and early music performance from the Hochschule für Musik und Theater, Hamburg, Germany. After earning a bachelor’s degree in music theory from the Conservatorio Nacional de Chile, she studied choral and orchestral conducting in Berlin, Germany and harpsichord in London. She has taught at the Berlin Church Music School, the Universidad de Chile, and the Pontificia Universidad Católica in Santiago, Chile. She has played solo recitals as organist and harpsichordist all over Germany and performed with and conducted ensembles and orchestras like the Berliner Bachsolisten, the Berliner Bachorchester, Leipziger Bachchor, La Giola, L'Arpa Festante, Musica Poetica, Chursaechsische Capelle, Estudio MusicAntigua, and Ars Antiqua Lipsiensis. In Chile, she performed with Collegium Josquin, Capella Antiqua, Pentagrama, Orquesta Sinfónica de Chile, and Orquesta de Cámara Universidad Católica. Recently she conducted the Orchestre du Chambre Français. She has recorded for Carpe Diem records, Berlin, and can be heard on the early German Baroque CD "Dulcis Memoriae ". She has led master classes at music festivals in Germany and Chile, and has appeared locally at Music Mountain Chamber Music Festival, the Berkshire Choral Festival and the Amherst Early Music Festival, as well as the Boston Early Music Festival and at many other East coast venues. Founder and artistic director of Crescendo, Christine, has led her own Chorus and Period Instrument Orchestra in several Baroque east coast and U.S. premieres. She conducts a variety of choral ensembles in New England and is currently Music Director at Trinity Episcopal Church in Lime Rock, CT.

Nicholas Tamagna (counter tenor) is the recent winner of the Nico Castel International Mastersinger Competition at Carnegie Hall, and winner of the Arkadi Foundation Competition at Merkin Hall. He made his début performance as Orpheus in Orfeo ed Euridice with Brooklyn Repertory Opera (2008) and reprised the role with Opera Memphis (2010). Opera Now described him as "exquisite, combining perfect tonal quality with substantial power…” Nicholas performs as a soloist with several ensembles and orchestras including: One World Symphony, Amor Artis, Fairfield Chorale Society, La Fiocca Ensemble, Ensemble Calandra, DCINY Orchestra and Crescendo Chorus and Chamber Ensemble.
