George and Ruth: Songs and Letters of the Spanish Civil War

Saturday, November 11, 2023 at 7:30 pm

Coming soon to Arts on the Lake

Newlyweds, George, as a volunteer with the Abraham Lincoln Brigade, wrote from the trenches in Spain, while Ruth, from her job with the WPA, wrote of organizing the home front. The story is told in their words. Directed by Katie Schmidt Feder, George is played by Nick Nazario, Ruth is played by Emrigael Alpern, and singer/guitarist Albi Gorn brings the songs of the '30s into the performance.

"'Though Franco may have won the battles, we had the best songs," Tom Lehrer.

Written by Molly Lynn Watt and Dan Lynn Watt from their parents' letters.

Songs selected and adapted by Tony Saletan.
