Singer Songwriters Circle

Coming soon to Arts on the Lake

A night of intimate listening with acclaimed professional singer/songwriters,  these evenings have proven to be many member's favorite annual event.  This year's Circle features: Jake Holmes, David Buskin, Amanda Homi, and Kati Mac.

 

 

 

David Buskin has been writing, recording and performing his music professionally since 1970. He’s made about fifteen albums, most as half of the duo Buskin & Batteau or in his notorious “geezer band” Modern Man. His songs and jingles have been recorded by many great artists including: Judy Collins, Peter, Paul & Mary, Johnny Mathis, Astrud Gilberto, Tom Rush, Dixie Carter, Roberta Flack, Mel Tormé, Take 6, Phoebe Snow, Richie Havens and Arlo Guthrie. He is a New York Nightlife Award, Bistro Award and Clio Award winner. He was the first recipient of the ASCAP Jamie deRoy Award for excellence in songwriting. He?'s organized, written for or participated in numerous concerts for organizations like The Hole In The Wall Camp, Stand For The Troops and HY/Hunger. For seven years he was a principal contributor to the late
Isaiah Sheffer?s Thalia Follies, a thrice-yearly political cabaret in NYC. He has also written special material for, among others, Bette Midler, Paul Newman, Gwyneth Paltrow and Whoopi Goldberg. Jake Holmes is a highly regarded American Songwriter whose success cuts across genres and decades. His songs have been performed by luminaries such as Frank Sinatra, Nina Simone, Led Zeplin, Harry Belafonte, and Lena Horne. His own recordings have entered the top billboard charts. In addition to his songwriting he has been a mainstay in the advertising world of jingle writing. You have heard his work in many ads for major organizations such as Dr. Pepper, Philip Morris, General Motors, Union Carbide, Gillette, DeBeers, Winn-Dixie, and British Petroleum and the US Army.

 


Amanda Homi is of English and Indian descent and the daughter of a percussionist and a dancer. Born in London and now living in New York City, Homi has traveled the world. She has studied dance and percussion in Brazil and Senegal, sung Rembetika in Greece, Gypsy Flamenco in Spain, filmed a documentary in Colombia, wrote and recorded Reggae in Jamaica and performed her music in Agadir with Moroccan musicians.
Her first album, Drumgirls was released in 2004 and throughout her career she has performed with numerous noted musicians including: Jackson Browne, Ray Lamontagne, Jane Siberry, Maxwell, Mavis Staples, They Might Be Giants, Michael Brecker, John Pizzarelli, Grover Washington, Jr., Pete Seeger, Toots Thielmans and Toots Hibbert. She has also written and sung on many national commercials and wrote the theme to the popular TV show "Bridezillas. " She was awarded the 2015 Independent Music Awards for Best Story Song.

 


Kati Mac is a former Warner/Chappell writer with 7 Emmy nominations for best original song. Her new CD, Songs of Revolution Songs of Peace, is a collection of iconic peace songs intended to be performed as a sing a long in the tradition of legendary peace activist, Pete Seeger. She recently authored a children’s book series titled, The Secret Adventures Of Scruffy MacMuffin. In addition, she has released a CD, Dog Vacation, to spotlight the plight of senior shelter pets and to help create a more humane way of sheltering homeless pets. In another life, she was the female lead singer for the artist Meat Loaf and sang on many commercials with her fellow songwriters performing with her for this event.
