Jeremy McCoy

Bassist Jeremy McCoy will be the second event in this year’s Friends of Classical Music Series. Mr. McCoy is Assistant Principal double bass with the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra. At age twenty, Jeremy won a position with the National Arts Centre Orchestra of Canada. The following season he joined the MET in 1985. Mr. McCoy performs extensively and he is a founding member of Sequitur and Ensemble Sospeso. He also appears regularly with Speculum Musicae, presenting premiere performances and recordings of chamber works by eminent contemporary composers. In addition to his orchestral duties, he maintains an active role as soloist, chamber musician, studio session player and teacher.

 

He will be accompanied by Aurelia Mika Chang, a Julliard graduate and New York based pianist who has performed extensively throughout Japan, China, Austria, Germany, Poland, and made her New York debut at Alice Tully Hall, Lincoln Center.

 

The program for this special evening will be:

This is a special event featuring a dinner and the performance and held in a the home of artists, Roy Volpe and Sue Gamache. The evening offers a unique opportunity to hear Mr. MCcoy in an intimate setting.

 

Tickets for this evening are $75 and include both the dinner and the performance. Directions to the event will be provided upon the purchase of the tickets. For Friends of Classical Music the evening is included with their season enrollment.

About the Event

Jeremy McCoy is Assistant Principal double bass with the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra. A graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music, Mr. McCoy played one season with the National Arts Centre Orchestra of Canada before joining the MET in 1985. He has performed as recitalist for the International Society of Bassists and CBC Radio and as concerto soloist at the National Arts Centre, with the Louisiana Philharmonic, the Atlantic Chamber Orchestra and the Lake Tahoe Summerfest Orchestra. Summer festival appearances include Marlboro, Kneisel Hall, Banff, Mostly Mozart, Bowdoin, the Grand Tetons and Ottawa Chamberfest. Mr. McCoy was a founding member of Sequitur and Ensemble Sospeso and also appeared regularly with Speculum Musicae, presenting premiere performances and recordings of chamber works by eminent contemporary composers. As a commercial session player, Mr. McCoy has played on dozens of motion picture soundtracks and recorded with a diverse group of popular artists. His own recordings, “Dialogues with Double Bass”, an eclectic program of duos, and “Baroque Legacy”, a collection of transcriptions for double bass, are available on Bridge Records and MSR Classics, respectively. Mr. McCoy has given master classes throughout the United States, in Canada, Sweden and Japan and has contributed articles to “Strings Magazine”. He serves on the faculties of Penn State University, the Manhattan School of Music and the National Youth Orchestra of Canada.
