Hoekstra discussing Arts on the Lake as an example of a community cultural center appeared in the Putnam County Press on March 28, 2012, in The Putnam County News and Recorder as "Arts Program Can Inspire Others" on Wednesday, March 28, 2012 and in the Putnam County Courier as "Learning From Arts-on-the-Lake Example" on Thursday, March 29, 2012. Press Release: Kent Arts Center to Re-Open After Construction
Arts on the Lake, whose home in the Lake Carmel Arts Center has been undergoing an eight-month exterior renovation, has scheduled a Re-Opening Celebration for the weekend of March 31 and April 1. See the full press release.
Spring Art Exhibit - Call for Entries
The Visual Arts Committee (VAC) of Arts on the Lake is hosting the Spring Exhibition to celebrate local artists. The exhibition is open to artists 18 years and older. The deadline for registration is Saturday, April 7. See the prospectus for more information.

Meehan Scores High in Basketball Shoot-Out

Shooting lay-ups to raise funds for Arts on the Lake at the Carmel Rotary's Basketball Shoot-Out on Sunday (3/11), Todd Meehan was one of the high scorers with 62 baskets in a two-minute period. If you pledged an amount per basket, multiply that by 62 to determine your contribution. Checks made out to the Carmel Rotary Club Foundation should be turned in to AotL this week for forwarding to Rotary. For questions, email benefit@artsonthelake.org.

Volunteers Repaint Arts Center
Pat and Phyllis Bolgosano, Anne Campbell, Marty Collins, George and Kate Davison, Dave and Jean Ehnebuske, Ellie Haggerty, Casey Hendricks, Don and Rita Longabucco, Curtis Watkins, and lots of drop-ins joined staffers Ed Durkee and Jason Buccieri to paint the Center over the weekend so classes could resume on Tuesday January 17.

Grants Announced
The Putnam Arts Council has announced that Arts on the Lake will receive support in 2012 for its Summer Concert Series and also its new program of Sunday afternoon Community Workshops. The official ceremony making the awards will be on Tuesday, February 28, at 6 pm at the Putnam Arts Council in Mahopac. We appreciate this support and all the support that members and friends have offered this past year.
Playwright/President Vaclav Havel Dies
Playwright and democratic Czechoslovakia’s first president Vaclav Havel died Sunday. Writing of the job he was forced to take at a brewery under the Communists, his play Audience was seen at Arts on the Lake in June 2009.

Jim Dale Carries On
Our neighbor and supporter Jim Dale joins Rosemary Harris and Carla Gugino in the Roundabout Theatre's revival of Athol Fugard’s The Road to Mecca. The play is in previews at the American Airlines Theatre on 42nd Street in preparation for a January 17 opening.
