Letter to the Members of Arts on the Lake from Artistic and Administrative Director James Shearwood
To the Members:
The work that we have done together to turn an empty building into a thriving Arts Center over the past few years has been something of which each one of us can be exuberantly proud. Arts on the Lake wins Socially Conscious Trailblazer Award
The Putnam Chambers of Commerce announced they will award Arts on the Lake a 2013 Socially Conscious Trailblazer Award at the Trailblazer Gala on January 31. Although 35 Putnam awards were announced this year, AotL is the only one from Kent Lakes. If you are planning to attend the Awards Ceremony on Jan 31, email office@artsonthelake.org to see if tables of 10 can be assembled for a slight discount.

Box for Toys and Food Gifts at the Center
Donations to the Putnam Community Action Program are being accepted at the Center in a box made by the children of Exploring Great Art and Artists. Toys (toy wish list) are accepted before December 16 (so there is time to distribute) and food (food wish list) is accepted at all times. If you're visiting an Exhibit or a Class, the box is just inside the door.

Press Release: Arts on the Lake to Expand Directors’ Board
Arts on the Lake, a non-profit corporation that operates out of the Lake Carmel Arts Center, 640 Route 52, in Kent, NY, is seeking to expand its Board of Directors in 2014. “As our programs expand, it is necessary to enlarge as well the Board that supports and guides those programs,” said Executive Director James Shearwood. Arts on the Lake Receives 2013 Best of Carmel Award
Arts on the Lake has been selected for the 2013 Best of Carmel Award in the Art category by the Carmel Award Program. Each year, the Carmel Award Program identifies companies that have achieved exceptional success in their local community. Press Release: Ed Kenney to Read Arthur Miller Classic at AotL
Actor and Morning Star Trading Company proprietor Ed Kenney will read Willy Loman in Arthur Miller’s iconic classic, Death of a Salesman, presented by the Blue Horse Repertory at Arts on the Lake, 640 Route 52, Lake Carmel, on Saturday, November 23, at 7pm. Joining Kenny will be Judy Allen, Elizabeth Breslin, Fred Rueck and James Shearwood from Putnam County and newcomers Ben Katagiri, David Cerutti, Nick Brigadier and Krista David from the Blue Horse Repertory Acting School in Albany. HER NATURE at Putnam Arts Council
Wendy Isler Alvarez, Pallas Athene, Patricia Bolgosano, and Amanda Lynne O’Shaughnessy are HER NATURE, an art exhibit which continues, 1-5 daily, at the Belle Levine Art Center in Mahopac through Monday, November 11.
Press Release: Arts on the Lake Presents the Alexander String Quartet at Tilly Foster
The internationally-noted Alexander String Quartet will play an all-Brahms concert in the Lodge at Tilly Foster Farm on Saturday, November 16, at 8pm. Presented by the Friends of Classical Music of Arts on the Lake, this performance marks the return of the Alexander to Carmel, following a sold out concert of Mozart and Shostakovich in November 2010. Press Release: “Brewster” Author Mark Slouka to Meet Readers at Arts on the Lake
Arts on the Lake is partnering with the Kent Public Library to present “A Conversation with Mark Slouka” on Sunday, October 27, at the Lake Carmel Arts Center, 640 Route 52, at 3 pm. Slouka is the author of the well-received new novel “Brewster,” set in the late 60’s in the Putnam town of the author’s youth. Read full press release.
