Aboundaddara and The Vera List Center for Art and Politics
An AotL member recently provided the Center with information about Abounaddara, a collective of anonymous artists within Syria who formed a film making collective that releases a weekly video documenting the current Syrian world. Awarded The New School's 2014 Vera List Center Prize for Art and Politics, they have mounted an exhibition, The Right to the Image, which opens Oct. 22 at the Aronson Galleries in NYC, with an on-line exhibition here.
Kent Highway Supervisor Rich Othmer to Perform in Shakespeare at Arts Center
Kent Highway Supervisor Richard Othmer has joined others to present the worker scenes from Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” in Bard on the Lake at the Lake Carmel Arts Center on Saturday, October 24, at 8 pm. Read full press release.
Brian Friel, Playwright Called the Irish Chekhov, Dies at 86
Called the Irish Chekhov in obituaries this week, Brian Friel died on October 2 in County Donegal, Ireland. He was 86. Known for a body of work that included Philadelphia, Here I Come!, Translations and Dancing at Lughnasa, Mr. Friel acknowledged his kinship with Chekhov by translating The Three Sisters and Uncle Vanya and introducing characters from both plays into his Afterplay in 2002. Coincidentally, Afterplay along with Friel's The Yalta Game had already been scheduled and will be part of Chekhov Take Off presented by the Blue Horse Repertory at the Arts Center on November 7.

Op Art/Pop Art - New Children's Art Class
Mary Schreiber is offering a new children's art class starting next week. This new class for children aged 5-12 will focus on Pop Art, Op Art, and Abstract Expressionism. What could be more fun? For more information click here.

New Intensive Painting Session
Alex Shundi's Intensive Painting Class has started a new session. Students are welcome to join in this class that is designed for both advanced and beginning students, regardless of disciplines chosen such as: landscape, figure, still life, abstract, etc. Students should bring whatever medium is preferred.
Cabaret Star Ray Jessel Dies at 85
Writer, songwriter and cabaret star Ray Jessel who headlined the AotL Fund Raiser in September 2012 and performed “A Musical Evening With Ray Jessel” at the Center in October 2010 passed away on July 17. After his appearance on America's Got Talent at the age of 84 in 2014, he became something of a You Tube sensation.

Tony Caretta at Wisdom House
Tony Caretta, whose Studio to Wall course was well received at Arts on the Lake, is presenting a similar course at the Wisdom House Retreat Center. This program provides students with an depth understanding of the real world hurdles artists encounter in their pursuit of having their art work shown in public.
Clearwater Festival Special Offer for AotL Members
