About the Event
“THE BUDDY SHOW†AT ARTS ON THE LAKE FEATURES EXPERIENCED, YOUNG TALENT
Bassist Buddy Griffith is the organizer behind “The Buddy Show†at Arts on the Lake, 640 Route 52, Lake Carmel, Sunday, February 24, at 3 pm.
Griffith, who graduated from Carmel High School in 2008 and SUNY-Fredonia with a degree in music education and performance in 2012, has invited pianist Cindy Radovich and bassist Ryan Boshart to join him in a program of music by Bach, Bottesini, Simon Garcia and Telemann.
Two new pieces by Mr. Griffith will be premiered at the concert as well.
Starting on the violin, Griffith says he switched to the double bass in 6th grade so he “could hang out with my friends in the back of the orchestra.â€
He credits Carmel High School music teachers with encouraging him to get a music degree at Fredonia from which he finished his student teaching in December.
Although Sunday’s concert will feature classical music, Griffith is also the bass guitarist and vocalist in “The Parthenon,†a rock band that has played previously at Arts on the Lake and other local venues.
Griffith credits meeting composer and bass player Edgar Meyer as a big influence on his playing and composing.
At Sunday’s concert, though the use of technology, Griffith will be able to play Telemann’s two-part canon with himself.
He and fellow Fredonia student Ryan Boshart will play the contemporary “rhythmic and groovy†California Duet by Simon Garcia, which only recently had a premiere in the United States.
Cindy Radovich who has been the piano accompanist for many individuals and Broadway musicals in the area has said, “It is pleasure to work with someone [Griffith] so skilled in so many areas of music.â€
