PCDP has curated a weekend of dance works from modern, ballet and contemporary pieces, to multimedia performance art dances. Putnam Falls for Dance presents two distinct performances across two days outside at Arts on the Lake on the Boyd Family Concert Lawn dance stage.
This is the 3rd event in this year's extremely successful "Open Stage/Talk Back" series, which features new and in-progress works by a variety of regional choreographers. The events have been followed by a "talk back" with the audience so they may give the dancers reactions and ask questions about their processes in creating dances. Their inspirations range from Spanish gardens, Latin-Jazz and the Day of the Dead to universal themes of chance, relationships and inner grappling of shame and personal will. Choreographers include: Leighann Kowalsky, Anna Mayta, Karina Mehta and Catherine Messina in addition to PCDP’s Carstens and Jennings.
On the first day of the festival, Saturday, September 21, Hispanic Heritage Month is honored as the company highlights choreographic works by hispanic performance artists: Melisa Chilo (Argentina), Ivanova Aguilar (Mexico) as well as works from native New York artists Steven Jeltsch (El Salvador) and Rosita Roldan (Puerto Rico/Spain).
Saturday, a special fundraising reception for PCDP follows the performance where you can meet the dancers, have the kids go after a Pinata, and have refreshments. All in all a special night and weekend indeed. Reception tickets can also be purchased separately or are included with the Dance Supporter tickets.
The Sunday, September 22, performance concludes the 2024 “Open Stage & Artist Talk back” series which invites choreographers to experiment, show and discuss new works in progress. The series features developing works, sketches or rough draft ideas followed by refreshments and casual Q&A between choreographers and audience.
Putnam County Dance Project was created in 2018 when dancers Marie Carstens and Erin Jennings joined forces after leaving NYC for the beauty of the Hudson Valley. Having both danced professionally in NYC and beyond, they co-created PCDP to bring quality dance performance and events to surrounding communities.
For their most recent show, they included two renowned companies that they concurrently dance with; Erick Hawkins Dance Company and Dances by Isadora. PCDP has created dance events and workshops including All Aboard, Taking Flight, and the local festival participation in Global Water Dances. PCDP has performed at various venues with Arts on the Lake, Philipstown Depot Theater (Garrison’s Landing), & Cultural Arts Coalition (Old Town Hall as well as Studio Around the Corner).
The company enjoys working collaboratively with different artists and musicians. Putnam County Dance Project is a collective of dancers/choreographers who live in the Putnam County area and welcome dancers from the region to showcase modern dance for Putnam residents. PCDP is grateful to have Arts on the Lake as their home base for modern dance works.
