2023 Midhat Serbagi Classical Music Series - Season Opener

We are honored to have the Sherman Chamber Ensemble with guest performer Susan Kurian open, open up the 2023 Season of the newly renamed Midhat Serbagi Classical Music Series. (More fondly known as the Friends of Midhat.) With violist, Jill Jaffe, as the Artistic Director of the series, we are able to continue the tradition of excellence that this series has embodied. This opening event is sure to provide magic.
Since 1982, the Sherman Chamber Ensemble has inspired audiences with creative programming and brilliant performances.
Members of The Sherman Chamber Ensemble
Doori Na - Violin - Na made his debut with The San Francisco Symphony performing Bach’s Double Violin Concerto with Itzhak Perlman and Michael Tilson Thomas. Currently living in New York City, Mr. Na plays with numerous ensembles around the city. He has played with the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra with tours in the US, Japan, and Europe performing in venues such as Carnegie Hall in New York and the Musiverien in Vienna.
Sarah Adams - Viola - Formerly violist with the Cassatt Quartet and assistant principal violist with the Houston Symphony Orchestra, Ms. Adams is a member of the American Ballet Theatre, and performs with Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, the American Symphony Orchestra, the New York City Opera Orchestra, and the Orchestra of St. Luke’s, among others.
Eliot Bailen - Cello - Bailen has an active career as an Artistic Director, cellist, composer and teacher. Principal cello of the New York Chamber Ensemble, New Jersey Festival Orchestra, Orchestra New England, New York Bach Artists, Teatro Grattacielo and the New Choral Society, Mr. Bailen is also Founder and Artistic Director of the Sherman Chamber Ensemble whose performances the New York Times has described as “the Platonic ideal of a chamber music concert.” (July, 2005). Mr. Bailen received his Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) from Yale University and is on the cello and chamber music faculty at Columbia University and Teachers College.

Sue Kurian - Flutist - Kurian has performed throughout the United States and Europe with ensembles including the Bach Aria Festival, the Monadnock Music Festival, the Springfield Symphony, the Oslo symphony in Finland and the American Festival Orchestra in Salerno, Italy. She is founder and member of Northampton Flutes, Mosaic, a flute-piano duo and the Kurian/Nix flute guitar duo. Ms. Kurian is a graduate of the Juilliard School where she studied with Julius Baker and continued her studies in France, with Jean Pierre-Rampal.
