Body Kite and CREATURES - Kick off the concerts.

Friday, June 23, 2023 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm

Coming soon to Arts on the Lake

Experimental Improvised Dance-Rock Band

Body Kite is an experimental improvised dance-rock band started by Pierre de Gaillande featuring a rotating cast of musicians. Grooves are created live on stage with drums, bass, guitars, keyboards and horns, as well as electronic loops and percussion layered on to achieve maximum funkiness, aiming for “liftoff” for audience and band alike. For fans of Krautrock, LCD Soundsystem, Talking Heads, and Bitches Brew-era Miles Davis.

CREATURES shares the billing with Body Kite. It is a NYC-based instrumental power trio that defies simple categorization. “Tom Waits trying to teach a klezmer band how to play Exile on Main St.” was one audience member’s post-show description. “If Morphine and King Crimson started a surf band” was another. We like to think of our music as “Zoological post-punk dance music.” CREATURES is Stefan Zeniuk on electric baritone saxophone, David Steele on electric guitar, and Todd Perlmutter on drums. Zeniuk, who leads noted Latin noir group, Gato Loco, is a long-time NY fixture as a downtown multi-instrumentalist, composer, classical dj, and performer who developed the pyrotechnic saxophone, the Flame-O-Phone. Perlmutter, former Music Director and Producer for Blue Man Group worldwide, is an independent music producer and in-demand powerhouse drummer. Steele, former bandmate of Perlmutter in major label band, Orangutang, also was with Blue Man Group as Creative Director/Writer for many years, breaks strings in many bands/projects and composes music and sound design for film, tv and theater. All three have collaborated with countless artists and projects worldwide, and share a love of theatrical spectacle, boundary pushing, DIY artistic expression and creating a sensory communal party. CREATURES is their joint vehicle for bad vibe exorcism and shared ecstatic release. CREATURES’ first album, featuring 22 songs about animals, A-Z, with many musical guest appearances, will be released in Summer 2023.

The outdoor concerts are held on the Boyd Concert Lawn that sits aside Lake Carmel creating a beautiful venue. Bring your lawn chairs, food and drink and enjoy this excellent night of music.  This concert starts at the unusual time of 6 and will end at 9 PM.

CREATURES will open the evening at 6 followed by Body Kite.

Tickets are $15 and are available on-line (See button above) and at the door. Parking is limited so come a bit early.  In case of severe weather, the concert will be inside, however the stage is covered so we try to have the performance outside unless its dangerous.
