Coming soon to Arts on the Lake

6 Sesssion Lecture Series

Who influenced whom and why in art? Throughout time, artists have re-interpreted past art in subjective ways, at times borrowed, at times stolen, but always expansively, as sparks to invent new fires. No artist has even NOT looked or be impressed and therefore inspired by other artists concepts, methods, and visions.

Much of the progress of art is an expansion of artist’s understanding of previous creations, and realizations of the need to go on in present context. Matisse and Picasso influenced and jousted with each-other, actions that contributed much advancements in theories and attitudes of making art. Caravaggio influenced from Velasquez to Rembrandt to Odd Nerdrum, Michelangelo was influenced by Donatello and Greek-Roman sculpture. Verrocchio, Titian, Correggio, Van Dyck, all had many followers.El Greco influenced Cezanne, Japanese prints Lautrec and Van Gogh, on and on.

Art has been a journey that synthesizes disparate theories and creates new visions that, in their diversity, become the next thesis and antithesis, waiting for the next synthesis. It is a revolving wheel composed of disparate but essential spokes.

From the Renaissance and how it was enhanced by ancient Greco-Roman digs in the beginning of Archeology to the limitless cross-influences brought about by today’s vertiginous information era,we will travel along that exciting journey.

This is a six part lecture series on Monday evenings from 7 PM to approximately 8:00. However these sessions often go over the allotted hour.

Fee for the 6 sessions is $95 for general public and $90 for Arts on the Lake members.

When you pay for the first session you are paying for the entire series. You will only pay once.  You will receive the Zoom links before the sessions, usually on the Monday afternoon.  All sessions are recorded and are available for viewing the following week.  If you have any questions, please email office@artsonthelake.org.
