The 3 ISM'S - Surrealism, Cubism and Futurism

Monday, February 13, at 7:00 pm

Coming soon to Arts on the Lake

Next in Alex Shundi's Series of Art History Classes on Zoom

6 Part Lecture Series on Zoom. Sessions are recorded for review.

These three “isms” are the foundation of western modern art. They liberated the way we interpret all the elements and disciplines that were established  before the 20th century, and pushed our fantasies and understanding of the universe to a new level.

They allowed us to express what we feel deep in our subconscious, and enriched us in giving visual means to create dynamism in static objects.

Speed, dreams, fragmentation and re-assembly of strategic elements, jumping from traditional complexity to choosing the essential, the joy of playing, of reconsidering, of analyzing new and exciting ways to see out world, and search for who we are.

Many terms that are kicked around “art-speak” are given in the assumption that we know exactly what they mean. This class will explain and clarify them.

We will also analyze the historical context within these “methods of expression” came to be: when, who, how:  the geopolitical, social-symbolic, tribal and scientific new world that expanded our knowledge, all causing a spirited revolution in the arts of our changed world.

Surrealism, Cubism and Futurism are inventive alphabets of exciting articulation that attracted the most important artists of the 20th century, and are still today generating great inspiration and interest.

Lectures are Monday nights at 7 PM. Session are recorded with the links provided during the week following the sessions.  Links for the sessions are emailed out on the day of the lectures.

Please note: When you register for the class, you will be paying for the entire 6 Sessions. Though the "ticket" will be for the starting date only, the 6 sessions are all included.
