Coming soon to Arts on the Lake

A Consummate Storyteller and Performer

Please note this is a new date!

When was the last time you sat down and listened to a story that left you laughing with abandon? Arts on the Lake is pleased to welcome back the 2020 Storytelling World Award winner Andy Offutt Irwin. He will be performing on Saturday, June 18th at 7pm, at the Sedgewood Club Boathouse 1026 Barrett Circle West, Kent NY 10512.

A Georgia native, Irwin brings his devilishly funny cast of characters from south-of-the-Mason Dixon line, for an evening of stories, laughs, and even extraordinary whistling.

Irwin, a one-person showman, describes himself as equal parts mischievous schoolboy and the Marx Brothers, peppered with a touch of the Southern Balladeer. Irwin’s family friendly stories often feature the adventures of his “88-year-old-newly-minted-physician-aunt,” Dr. Marguerite Van Camp. She is “a keen observer of human behavior and an inveterate practical jokester, who keeps her finger on the pulse of the changing world around her as she seeks to grow – even at her advanced age – in the New South.”

A highly sought-after storyteller, Irwin has been honored with countless awards. Most recently he won the Storytelling World Award three years in a row, from 2018-2020. His latest album, Puffed, Flaked, Shredded & Clustered, has received several awards, including Spotify Artist’s Pick from Deepak Chopra. 2019 marked Andy’s tenth year as a Featured Teller at the National Storytelling Festival and he has appeared fourteen times as Teller in Residence at International Storytelling Center.

Among other awards are the 2017 National Parenting Product Award, the 2013 National Storytelling Network’s ORACLE Circle of Excellence Award, and the 2001 Sammy Clark Award for Exemplary Teaching and Service.

He has a rich past that he brings to his performances. He has been a theatre director, singer-songwriter, a Shakespearean actor, the Artist-in-Residence at Emory University’s Oxford College, a Keynote Speaker/Performer at the Library of Congress and a performer, writer, and director for the SAK Theatre at Walt Disney World.

The Atlanta Journal / Constitution raves that he is “a fiendishly clever union of Tom Lehrer’s topicality… cut with Bobby McFerrin-style mouth music. Andy Offutt Irwin’s shows are good quirky fun!”

Putnam resident Robert Hauver, who attended the last two performances at Arts on the Lake raved, "We laughed so much our heads hurt. This guy is dangerous!"

Arts on the Lake is a non-profit whose mission is to sponsor, encourage, and create opportunities for all the residents of the Town of Kent and the larger community to participate in and appreciate the arts. For tickets and information please visit the website: artsonthelake.org
