Patriotic Poems and a Word to the Wise

Friday, April 9, 2021 at 7:30 pm

Coming soon to Arts on the Lake

Whether rousing us to battle or reminding us of original truths, poems have often been used to lead us to fought-over goals. From Robert Frost to Amanda Gorman, it is the poet, standing next to power, that speaks and questions for us.
      Frost wrote:
“A golden age of poetry and power
Of which this noonday's the beginning hour.”
      Gorman replies:
“We've learned that quiet isn't always peace
And the norms and notions
of what just is
Isn't always just-ice.”

     Both are American in 2021.

We have a wide variety of poems and interpretations to offer.

To get the login code, you will need to make a modest ($3 to $18) ticket donation to AotL choosing a price level from the Buy Tickets button above. The price level need not correspond to your perceived station in life. Student or Supporter, all are welcome.

55 minutes of readings, and then discussion of what we've encountered.
