Part 4 of the 6 Part Virtual Lecture Series with Alex Shundi
The Figure in Modern Art
The fourth session of the series continues the exploration of the human figure. Previous Sessions are available to view and links will be provided once you register. You will receive a link for the upcoming session.
"The human figure has been the principal subject in Western art since 50,000 years ago.
It is a study of ourselves, a mirror, really, and artists have used it to celebrate, study, and fantasize it, to damn it, accuse it and express love, as Gods and Goddesses, as demons and jesters, warriors and mothers, queens and paupers.
Modernity saw it explored way beyond its proportionally physical being, and added psychology, inner spirit, fragmented and stretched it, invented symbolic new attributions of color and form so as to express the myriad of complexity in it’s humanity, it has allowed for searching for its essence, and seduced out eyes to feel its reactions to all senses.
Any adjective in a language may define many aspects of who we are, and this immense menu of possibilities and conditions has informed much invention, in an avalanche of diversity and ingenuous descriptions.
We will embark in an exciting and entertaining study of all this, starting with Impressionism to today.
Some will touch on sexual politics, some on methods of expression, and very much on the amazing variety of ways to depict who we are." - Alexander Shundi
Cost: The price of $72 is for all 6 sessions. Sessions will be recorded and will be made available soon after the sessions for viewing.
