Class coming soon to Arts on the Lake

An examination of the elements involved in the making of art.

Getting Real About Art

This class, concerning the practice of art, focuses on and is comprised of three distinct facets in the making of art. It applies to all mediums and forms of expression. Participants will discuss their own experiences as well as their portfolios.

The first element is idea and concept development .This element looks at how we as artists can craft both an internal and external environment that will allow for the most focused and high quality ideas. Creating flow and reducing creative resistance will be discussed and developed. A variety of techniques such as stillness, meditation, doodling and many others will be examined as possible avenues of flow.

The second element comprising the Practice of Art is expression. This is the process of physically representing our ideas in effective and compelling ways. In the development of techniques to accomplish this, artists can become stuck or limited in their means of translating their ideas. Very specific practices will be discussed that will guarantee your development as these practices are committed to and applied consistently.

The third element and typically the most complex aspect is Commerce. The definition of commerce is ‘exchange’. How will you as an artist interact with the public and what specifically do you want from your effort. It can include a financial reward or it can be primarily a personal gratification of sharing ideas and means. The complex nature of these exchanges will be closely examined with each participant on a personal level, i.e. portfolios or other presentations.

Time will be allotted to address specific issues wanting to be discussed by the participants. The goal of this class is to craft a practice or routine that creates a personal environment that is supportive and conducive to the goals of each artist.
